BADD Grand Rounds

Well, I guess Grand Rounds is a bit of an exaggeration. That list is posted at Diary of a Goldfish, our fine Blogging Against Disablism Host. This years BADD has been phenomenal with so many essential insights and pivotal questions posted across the blogosphere, that I had an incredibly difficult time picking my favs amongst such fine work. These are just a few of the most notable standouts of this year's superb collection.

Note to readers - I haven't yet finished reading all of this year's entries, so this is likely a work in progress.

Kyron in the Special Parent posted this excellent examination about the impact of prenatal testing on society; one devoid of the abortion date but chalk full of ethical questions and considerations inherent in world that has the ability to choose which children should be born. Eugenics in today’s society is a BADD must.

The Room At the End of the Hall: When Integration = Segregation is Twinkle Little Star's insightful and thought provoking on inclusion shouldn't be missed. It is long, but so very worth it.

A big ol' shout out to Ms. DasiyBones, whose badd: blog against disablism day post you have to see to understand. You go with your crazy sexy badd self!

Frida Writes about visible societal perception of disability and invisible disability allegiance in Invisible People. Or, Compare and Contrast: WiMPS and GIMPS. Nicely done, Frida.

All 4 My Gals handed over the blogging reigns this BADD to Miss Tarenne in I Hate That Baby Talk. Let this be a lesson to all that haven't yet learned it:
"Even in Kindergarten when I wasn't much shorter, they would bend down and put their hands on their knees and talk to me like I was a baby. They looked so stupid and I would just roll my eyes at them."
I would roll my eyes too.

Against The Glass posted this amazing last minute entry that I fear may be overlooked because it was one of the last to arrive at the ball, but wowza, does it dance. “Off With Their Heads!” “Give us Barabbas!” and Other Musings About The Culture of Retribution shares this logical wisdom:
"It’s simple economics that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Compassion is, therefore, the most economical way to create a better world. It’s time to grind the torches and pitchforks into plowshares, to lose our insatiable appetites for retribution, and hunger instead for a world of universal justice and love."
But it is the undeniable argument that will really speak to you. I hope the world is listening.

And finally, for now, I give you the strongly worded (translated - not for the faint of ear) Corrosive from Down In Me and SeaHorse's Look Back in Anger, both of which delve into the murky waters of the emotional impact of their disability related experiences. These are not good feeling power to the people posts; these are honest examinations of coping abilities in a climate of discrimination. They should not be missed.

Now, which were your favorite BADD posts and why?
Help me progress.
