Our Vision for Miss Emma Jayne

We strive to provide Emma with all of the opportunities and tools possible so that she may grow to have choices in life. We want to enable her to take charge of her own person and determine her own destiny. We believe that her future is yet to be seen and while we are here to guide her, ultimately she is in control…she will show us who she is and what her capabilities are.

We don’t want to subject her to too much pressure or overwhelm her with unrealistic expectations, yet at the same time we want her to know that she can do anything or be anything she wants. We want to make as many expectations as realistic as possible for her. Because we will not accept the theory that her extra chromosome is so disabling she cannot live independently or have successes, we want to provide her with every possible tool and opportunity to become as capable as she sees fit.

We also want her to have the ability to have as many typical experiences as she wants to have. We want her to have many longstanding and reciprocal relationships and see no reason why she shouldn’t be able to support her self, have boyfriends, get married, seek higher education, or even become a mother if that is what she desires and is capable of. We do want her to be an active participant in both society and her community and will do everything in our abilities to help prepare her for that participation. We want her to feel self confident and loved, and always aware of her intrinsic value and importance.

Ultimately we want her to lead a life brimming with joy and filled with love.
